"‘My therapy this time has improved my quality of life hugely. I have tried lots of other therapy in the past. CBT, OCD groups and ERP with other therapists, but I have never truly understood why I had the thoughts, or where they really came from. I believe that the weeks Paulina spent with me teaching me about how OCD really starts and then becomes deep rooted, have made a massive difference to me being able to tackle compulsions that I have never been able to tackle before in any other therapy sessions. We spent a lot of time discovering how to challenge a lot of the 'magical thinking' behind my OCD and how that thinking began. I made links to my childhood that I had never noticed before that really explained where OCD had really started. When Paulina asked me what I thought would happen if I didn't carry out certain compulsions, I realised I no longer knew/even believed the initial thought anymore! I discovered through ERP, that practicing the exposure over and over, brought my anxiety down over time. I have achieved so much over these past few months. Things that I never thought I could achieve like gaining back control of my time and relationship (especially with my partner). I now have more free time to do things I love. I no longer have to wait up until my partner comes home from work before going to bed. I get more sleep which has helped me in work and I can finally do more 'normal' things like sitting on my sofa again and cuddling my partner after he has been to work, without worrying I will become contaminated.”
